1. On Deities

III. A Sword — SN1.27: Streams

1“From where do streams turn back?
Where does the cycle spin no more?
Where do name and form
cease with nothing left over?”

2“Where water and earth,
fire and air find no footing.
From here the streams turn back;
here the cycle spins no more;
and here it is that name and form
cease with nothing left over.”

1"Kuto sarā nivattanti,
kattha vaṭṭaṁ na vattati;
Kattha nāmañca rūpañca,
asesaṁ uparujjhatī"ti.

2"Yattha āpo ca pathavī,
tejo vāyo na gādhati;
Ato sarā nivattanti,
ettha vaṭṭaṁ na vattati;
Ettha nāmañca rūpañca,
asesaṁ uparujjhatī"ti.
