III. At the Village of Koṭi — SN56.25: The Ending of Defilements

1“Mendicants, I say that the ending of defilements is for one who knows and sees, not for one who does not know or see. For one who knows and sees what? The ending of defilements is for one who knows and sees suffering, its origin, its cessation, and the path. The ending of the defilements is for one who knows and sees this.


2That’s why you should practice meditation …”

1"Jānatohaṁ, bhikkhave, passato āsavānaṁ khayaṁ vadāmi, no ajānato apassato. Kiñca, bhikkhave, jānato passato āsavānaṁ khayo hoti? ‘Idaṁ dukkhan’ti, bhikkhave, jānato passato āsavānaṁ khayo hoti, ‘Ayaṁ dukkhasamudayo’ti jānato passato āsavānaṁ khayo hoti, ‘Ayaṁ dukkhanirodho’ti jānato passato āsavānaṁ khayo hoti, ‘Ayaṁ dukkhanirodhagāminī paṭipadā’ti jānato passato āsavānaṁ khayo hoti. Evaṁ kho, bhikkhave, jānato evaṁ passato āsavānaṁ khayo hoti.


2Tasmātiha, bhikkhave, ‘idaṁ dukkhan’ti yogo karaṇīyo … pe … ‘Ayaṁ dukkhanirodhagāminī paṭipadā’ti yogo karaṇīyo"ti.
