II. The Garden of Delight — SN1.18: Conscience

1“Can a person constrained by conscience
be found in the world?
Who shies away from blame,
like a fine horse from the whip?”

2“Few are those constrained by conscience,
who live always mindful.
Having reached the end of suffering,
they live smoothly in the rough.”

1"Hirīnisedho puriso,
koci lokasmiṁ vijjati;
Yo nindaṁ apabodhati,
asso bhadro kasāmivā"ti.

2"Hirīnisedhā tanuyā,

Antaṁ dukkhassa pappuyya,
caranti visame saman"ti.
