Aṅguttara Nikāya - The Numerical Discourses

4: The Book of the Fours

II. Walking — AN 4.18: Prejudice (2nd)

1“Mendicants, there are these four ways of making unprejudiced decisions. What four? Making decisions unprejudiced by favoritism, hostility, stupidity, and cowardice. These are the four ways of making unprejudiced decisions.

2If you don’t act against the teaching
out of favoritism, hostility, cowardice, and stupidity,
your fame swells,
like the moon in the waxing fortnight.”

1"Cattārimāni, bhikkhave, nāgatigamanāni. Katamāni cattāri? Na chandāgatiṁ gacchati, na dosāgatiṁ gacchati, na mohāgatiṁ gacchati, na bhayāgatiṁ gacchati – imāni kho, bhikkhave, cattāri nāgatigamanānīti.

2Chandā dosā bhayā mohā,
yo dhammaṁ nātivattati;
Āpūrati tassa yaso,
sukkapakkheva candimā"ti.

Aṭṭhamaṁ.
