Vinaya Piṭaka - Monastic Rules

Bhikkhu Vibhaṅga - Sekhiya 30: Accept food in proportion to the bowl, without exceeding its inner rim, when going to collect food.

Origin story

1At one time the Buddha was staying at Sāvatthī in the Jeta Grove, Anāthapiṇḍika’s Monastery. At that time the monks from the group of six received almsfood in a heap. …

Final ruling

2“‘I will receive an even level of almsfood,’ this is how you should train.”

3Almsfood is to be received at an even level. If a monk, out of disrespect, receives almsfood in a heap, he commits an offense of wrong conduct.

Non-offenses

4There is no offense: if it is unintentional; if he is not mindful; if he does not know; if there is an emergency; if he is insane; if he is the first offender.

5The tenth training rule is finished.
The third sub-chapter on hands on hips is finished.
