Saṁyutta Nikāya — The Connected Discourses

SN35: Connected Discourses on the Six Sense Bases

SN35:78 Radha (3)

1… "Radha, you should abandon desire for whatever is nonself.

And what is nonself?

"The eye is nonself; you should abandon desire for it.
Forms are nonself; you should abandon desire for them.
Eye-consciousness is nonself; you should abandon desire for it.
Eye-contact is nonself; you should abandon desire for it.
Whatever feeling arises with eye-contact as condition— whether pleasant or painful or neither-painful-nor-pleasant— that too is nonself; you should abandon desire for it.

"The ear … the nose … the tongue … the body … are nonself; you should abandon desire for them.

"The mind is nonself; you should abandon desire for it.
Mental phenomena … mind consciousness … mind contact … are nonself; you should abandon desire for them.
Whatever feeling arises with mind-contact as condition … that too is nonself;
you should abandon desire for it. sn.iv.49

Radha, you should abandon desire for whatever is nonself."
