1At Sāvatthī. Sitting to one side, the Venerable Radha said to the Blessed One: "Venerable sir, it would be good if the Blessed One would teach me the Dhamma in brief, so that, having heard the Dhamma from the Blessed One, I might dwell alone, withdrawn, diligent, ardent, and resolute."
"Radha, you should abandon desire, you should abandon lust, you should abandon desire and lust, for whatever is subject to Māra …
sn.iii.199 You should abandon desire, you should abandon lust, you should abandon desire and lust, for whatever is impermanent …
You should abandon desire, you should abandon lust, you should abandon desire and lust, for whatever is of an impermanent nature …
You should abandon desire, you should abandon lust, you should abandon desire and lust, for whatever is suffering …
You should abandon desire, you should abandon lust, you should abandon desire and lust, for whatever is of a painful nature …
You should abandon desire, you should abandon lust, you should abandon desire and lust, for whatever is nonself …
You should abandon desire, you should abandon lust, you should abandon desire and lust, for whatever is of a selfless nature …
You should abandon desire, you should abandon lust, you should abandon desire and lust, for whatever is subject to destruction …
You should abandon desire, you should abandon lust, you should abandon desire and lust, for whatever is subject to vanishing …
You should abandon desire, you should abandon lust, you should abandon desire and lust, for whatever is subject to arising …
You should abandon desire, you should abandon lust, you should abandon desire and lust, for whatever is subject to cessation.
And what, Radha, is subject to cessation?
Form is subject to cessation.
Feeling is subject to cessation.
Perception is subject to cessation.
Volitional formations are subject to cessation.
Consciousness is subject to cessation.
You should abandon desire, you should abandon lust, you should abandon desire and lust, for whatever is subject to cessation.
