XXII. Assembly — AN 4.220: Unethical

1“Mendicants, someone with four qualities is cast down to hell. What four? They’re faithless, unethical, lazy, and witless. Someone with these four qualities is cast down to hell.

2Someone with four qualities is raised up to heaven. What four? They’re faithful, ethical, energetic, and wise. Someone with these four qualities is raised up to heaven.”

1"Catūhi, bhikkhave, dhammehi samannāgato yathābhataṁ nikkhitto evaṁ niraye. Katamehi catūhi? Assaddho hoti, dussīlo hoti, kusīto hoti, duppañño hoti – imehi kho, bhikkhave, catūhi dhammehi samannāgato yathābhataṁ nikkhitto evaṁ niraye.

2Catūhi, bhikkhave, dhammehi samannāgato yathābhataṁ nikkhitto evaṁ sagge. Katamehi catūhi? Saddho hoti, sīlavā hoti, āraddhavīriyo hoti, paññavā hoti – imehi kho, bhikkhave, catūhi dhammehi samannāgato yathābhataṁ nikkhitto evaṁ sagge"ti.

Parisasobhaṇavaggo dutiyo.

3Parisā diṭṭhi akataññutā,
Pāṇātipātāpi dve maggā;
Dve vohārapathā vuttā,
Ahirikaṁ duppaññena cāti.
