X. With Upāli — AN 10.100: Cannot

1“Mendicants, without giving up ten things you can’t realize perfection. What ten? Greed, hate, delusion, anger, hostility, offensiveness, contempt, jealousy, stinginess, and conceit. Without giving up these ten things you can’t realize perfection.


2After giving up ten things you can realize perfection. What ten? Greed, hate, delusion, anger, hostility, offensiveness, contempt, jealousy, stinginess, and conceit. After giving up these ten things you can realize perfection.”

1"Dasayime, bhikkhave, dhamme appahāya abhabbo arahattaṁ sacchikātuṁ. Katame dasa? Rāgaṁ, dosaṁ, mohaṁ, kodhaṁ, upanāhaṁ, makkhaṁ, paḷāsaṁ, issaṁ, macchariyaṁ, mānaṁ – ime kho, bhikkhave, dasa dhamme appahāya abhabbo arahattaṁ sacchikātuṁ.


2Dasayime, bhikkhave, dhamme pahāya bhabbo arahattaṁ sacchikātuṁ. Katame dasa? Rāgaṁ, dosaṁ, mohaṁ, kodhaṁ, upanāhaṁ, makkhaṁ, paḷāsaṁ, issaṁ, macchariyaṁ, mānaṁ – ime kho, bhikkhave, dasa dhamme pahāya bhabbo arahattaṁ sacchikātun"ti.

Dasamaṁ.

Upālivaggo pañcamo.

3Kāmabhogī bhayaṁ diṭṭhi,
vajjiyamāhituttiyā;
Kokanudo āhuneyyo,
thero upāli abhabboti.

Dutiyo paṇṇāsako samatto.
